Girl Drummer (Karen Carpenter) Onesie

$30.00
sold out

Karen Carpenter had a magical voice and her musical talent ran deep.

She was vibrant, energetic and oh so very alive. Little known fact: she was an INCREDIBLE drummer.

In high school, Karen was handed a glockenspiel in the marching band and figured it out entirely on her own. Eventually she practiced rhythm with chopsticks on bar stools — teaching herself percussion.

She and her brother Richard broke into pop music in the 70s but it was Karen who carried them. Her vocals, soulful charm and the way she communicated song lyrics made the Carpenters stand out.

Rolling Stone ranked her one of the Greatest Singers of All Time, calling her voice “impossibly lush and almost shockingly intimate.”

There was something in Karen’s sound that went deeper than words. Something lonely and melancholy. Something so heartbreakingly real.

She would have been 74 years old next month and I do believe she’s on top of the world looking down on creation wondering what incredible work the world is missing out on while we’re still busy picking apart the bodies and choices of female artists.

This onesie features some of the iconic, artistic ways she expressed herself. Each design element has a story that true fans will appreciate and new fans can discover.

Hand illustrated and printed using eco-friendly water based inks on a 100% cotton organic baby bodysuit. Baby onesies are made in small batches and will ship within 3 weeks of placing your order.
